The Ambassador Cruises' Ambience has been amongst the liners visiting Invergordon so far this year.

A row broke out when a Cromarty resident reportedly complained about cruise liners blasting their horns as they leave the Cromarty Firth.

Causing an at least temporary ban on the practise before community views can be more widely investigated, we asked readers what they thought:

“Why should shipping be told to quit doing the safety hoots which have been done since forever by one person who complained? These measures of safety have been used for decades if not longer...marine safety is paramount just as land safety is....” – Flora Thomson, Cromarty

“Loved taking the children to see the big ships leave at Cromarty. It was so exciting and a wonderful atmosphere. The sounding of the horn was a lovely farewell gesture and appreciated by us all.” – AD, Inverness

“It’s tradition and always good to hear.” – Anna, Beauly

“Complete nonsense from the vociferous no-brain minority.” – Hywel Stewart, Inverness

“Clearly the one lady in question is not originally from Cromarty. Like the oil rigs in the Firth, the liners have been a part of life living beside the Firth since the ‘80s. People should realise this before purchasing properties then complaining afterwards. I am a born and bred Crom and find this totally ridiculous that one person could stop something that has happened for a very long time which does bring smiles to lots of faces, adults as well as kids. So for the sake of the residents and the other people who come to see the liners leave the Firth BRING BACK THE HORNS!!!!!” – Paul Shepherd, North Kessock

“Tooting a ship’s horn has been a worldwide tradition for many decades – it does no harm whatsoever and passengers on cruise ships (having enjoyed many cruises myself) like the experience.” – Raymond Mackenzie, Inverness

“I worked at sea and on cruise ships. It was always part of the sailing that horn is sounded when leaving port. Makes it exciting . Don’t see what the issue is.” – Annabella Senior, Brodie

“Many times I have gone to see them leaving and thoroughly enjoy when the horns blow, that’s what makes it.” – June Potts, Alness
