Academy Street plans are laughable

If you are looking for comedy look no further than Highland Council as they must employ all the comedians if they really think that the latest proposed changes to Academy Street will be workable never mind an improvement!!

Speed signs were just premature

Motorists driving through Nairn were caught by surprise when a series of new 20mph speed limit signs were installed on the A96 through the town only to disappear again by the following day. Highland Council later explained the signs had been accidentally erected too early. They are, however, set to become a fixture later this year.

“After driving through Nairn and seeing the 20mph signage where it used to be 30mph I warned my partner. She drove through to Inverness, apparently after it had all been taken down again, and came back accusing me of having lost my marbles!!! I wonder who is picking up the bill, and how much it was, to install and then remove all the signs?” – Tom Hardie, Rafford

Business community not convinced

Hopes of convincing Inverness Business Improvement District (BID) of the benefits of proposed changes to traffic access on Academy Street seemed to have been unsuccessful as the body reported that 80 per cent of its members are either opposed or strongly opposed to the plans.

“Traffic in Inverness is horrendous, it could be like Edinburgh city centre with a tram system which would improve congestion and be an asset to tourists, which Highland Council obviously want to encourage.” – Kevin Macdonald, Inverness
