Parking rules must be enforced in Inverness

I have just read your article on pavement parking and how it will be enforced.

How on earth will the useless Highland Council enforce this when they can’t deal with parking on double yellow lines in Inverness?

Parking on double yellow lines in Inverness has become the norm and acceptable because Highland Council do nothing about it.

Pavement parking also seems to be acceptable in Inverness.

A good example is the slip road entrance to the Eastgate Centre on Crown Road.

This is used every day for parking, causing problems for motorists trying to enter or exit the centre.

Highland Council complain about the lack of money for things like pothole repairs.

If they issued parking tickets for illegal parking it would bring in a large amount of money.

Crown Road at the moment could bring in huge amounts of money both for Highland Council and the Eastgate Centre which is losing money because of these law-breaking motorists.

Parking on double yellow lines in Inverness has reached epidemic proportions because everyone is aware that there is no enforcement.

Perhaps The Inverness Courier could do something to highlight the problem and force Highland Council to do something about the situation.

20mph zones are not the right answer for all areas

News that Highland Council is now to consult on the new 20mph zones set up in communities across the region – as part of a Scottish Government trial limiting vehicle speeds in built-up areas – continues to provoke comment and debate.

“The virtual blanket of 20mph zones, whilst welcome in the city centre and around schools, is not justified throughout the Highlands. Perhaps the number of fatalities and serious injuries which have occurred in current 30mph limits can be published. I respect that there have been incidents but I understand generally that is due to people/ drivers exceeding the speed limit and signs are not going to stop those drivers! Do the speed limits apply to cyclists – especially e-bikes?” – Jane and Richard Smith, Inverness
