Is Scotland heading for another independence referendum?

Readers responded online in droves to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's recent announcement that she had begun moves towards a second indyref.

“Scotland is the richest country in the UK yet we get nothing more than scraps from the UK government, England needs us we don’t need them ,it’s time for Scotland to thrive it’s time for Scotland to be free.” – Mark Glass, Wallyford

“The UK we voted to stay in back in 2014 no longer exists. The current UK incarnation shot itself in the foot over Brexit. What other option do we have?” – Stephen Martin, Cowdenbeath

“Voted yes the last time and will continue to do so until we are independent from the rest of the UK. If Nicola can’t get it done I will vote for the party that can. I have stuck with the SNP all these years because of their stance on independence, if they don’t get their finger out and get the job done they have lost my vote.” – Linda, Kilwinning

“I have been hoping for an independent Scotland for over 50 years now. May I live to see it.” – Dave Reilly, Duns

“We have lived through 10 years of Tory-inflicted austerity. Brexit has hit us hard. Covid even harder. All decisions on these matters were out of our hands. It’s time we took control of our resources, our wealth, our future. Decisions made by us, for us!” – Fredric Baker, Leven

“All five of us in my household are voting Yes to the question of Scotland becoming a normal country. It is not a trick question, we need away from the damaging toxic unionist Clownshow of Westminster ASAP. Thanks for asking.” – James Mcvean, Thurso

“Nicola would do anything to take away the focus of her and her party’s inability to run a country, ferries five years late, worst drug problem in Europe, not giving teachers full-time jobs so they keep moving and disrupting education, not having a mandatory education curriculum, leading to less-educated school leavers. Devolution has worked, Scotland has gone backwards and stopped evolving.” – Charles E Stewart, Inverness
