I have never heard such hypocrisy in all my life being directed in the direction of Kate Forbes.

We all want politicians to be honest and when one is they get pilloried for it big style.

Kate has been an MSP since 2016, she is finance secretary and has never let her personal beliefs come in the way of her work but because she said she would not have voted for these bills she suddenly is a homophobic bigot.

I want to ask you all this question.

How many of you know how any of your elected members vote on any bill?

I maintain any of us has the right to speak our minds, whether we agree or not with what’s been said, but it seems this is not the case here.

I must say the person who referred to her and other Christians like myself as backward bigots is the one who is being judgmental.

In the wake of Highland MSP Kate Forbes’s declaration she would not have voted for equal marriage had she been an MSP at the time, and the outcry that followed, Courier columnist Nicky Marr asked whether it was right to “cancel” people with controversial views.

“The question isn’t necessarily about our tolerance but that of Kate Forbes... would you want a leader who is intolerant of gay marriage and abortion?? I think that’s the more crucial question... not our levels of tolerance... which must be pretty high considering the government we are ‘tolerating!’ In Westminster.” – Maggie Blyth

“It’s the job of the party leader to direct party policy. It’s the job of the First Minister to lead the government. This election decides both. I have no idea by what metric we are supposed to judge potential candidates by if not their views on policy.” – Emma Roddick

“Press and some of her own party have done a hatchet job on her. Her crime was being completely honest.” – Stuart Macpherson

“She’s entitled to her beliefs. She’s not entitled to practice them on us because her church says so. Which is what she’s going to do with GRR.” – Chas MacDonald
