An online survey has been launched by a group keen to find a use for a closed Inverness church. The Save the Old High questionnaire asks about potential new uses for the city landmark including making it into a café and shop, an auditorium, a sanctuary and possibly a family history facility. Readers had their own ideas.

“Probably my favourite building in Inverness which has played its part over centuries in key events. It deserves a new life as a public building – keeping its character but earning a living!” – Thomas Prag

“Music venue.” – Siobhan Darlington

“Rubble. Same goes for all churches!” – Tony Wearing

“Ironworks 2.” – Robert Urquhart

“Probably another city hotel.” – David Grant

“Something for locals. It’s an important part of the local history and should be preserved as is as far as it’s possible, although it would need to be refurbished inside to accommodate multi purpose use. It would be more appropriate for the Common Good Fund to be used to purchase and maintain this venue for locals than some of the awful things it’s been used for previously.” – Kim Corbett

“Given it’s highest state of listed building, very little can be done to turn it into hotel, Ironworks substitute etc, thankfully. As some others have said, a multi purpose centre that can be used by locals and visitors alike. An exhibition space and small gift shop with goods from local artisans; a venue for small music/storytelling sessions, focussing on traditional music; meeting spaces; coffee shop; small museum incorporating its military, cultural and religious past. It’s a building that is at the heart of the history of Inverness and should be saved for the city.” – Mhairi Jarvie

“Visitors centre, for the history of Inverness. Connected to the Jacobites history, and connect this with the execution stone outside on the graveyard.” – Karin Van Rooij Bouck

“As a museum of the life and times of Inverness especially as there are lots of artefacts held in storage never been displayed which could be shown here. It needs to be kept not turned into housing.” – Marjory Shane
