Very different reactions from readers to two different public acts.

Chip shop owner’s comments sparked anger in village

A Black Isle fish and chip shop proprietor sparked a furious reaction after posts on social media showed her apparently celebrating the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Police were called to Jaki Fish and Chip Shop in Muir of Ord as an angry crowd gathered in response to the posts. Owner Jaki Pickett could not be contacted for comment.

“Her comments were way beyond disgusting and as for her video outside the shop that was unbelievable! She incensed the local people of Muir as well as others who saw her post on social media! She’s finished now as a chip shop and it’s possible she may end up having to sell her house as I can’t imagine her neighbours being friendly after this!!!” – Joan Bland

“In the end of the day nobody should disrespect the dead no matter who it is. Just nasty and of bad taste.” – Nicole Tenhaken

“Her actions and comments are abhorrent. Disgusting and not representative of the people of the Highlands.” – Jim Mackenzie

“Jim Mackenzie I don’t think a mob breaking windows is representative of the people of the Highlands either, to be honest.” – Helen Smith

“I just see the mob at her shop as bad as her.” – William Horne

“She clearly underestimated the reaction she would get from locals and neighbouring towns and villages.” – Steven Sipson

Yarnbombers help to brighten up town for festival’s return

Nairn’s team of Yarnbombers were hard at work recently, brightening up the town for the town’s Book and Arts Festival. Fifteen postboxes were included in the team’s Nairn Trail Map, decorated with crocheted woollen hats based on the theme ‘Myths and Legends of the North’.

“You made my day! I was walking my dog down the river near Firhall where I live and I got such a lovely surprise to see little crochet flowers and animals in plastic bags with a little note asking me to take one home. It certainly put a smile on my face, I took an owl and have it hanging from my dog’s lead. Keep the good work up, you are one in a million.” – Margaret Curry, Nairn
