A MAN who failed to complete an unpaid work sentence has been sent to prison instead.

Joseph Bokas (44) of Alexandra Place, Inverness, was convicted last year of being in the curtilage of a property in the city’s Bruce Gardens without lawful authority and in circumstances which inferred he intended to commit theft.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard householders nearby became aware of lights being activated in gardens at a property on December 30, 2017 and doors being opened and they called the police.

Bokas, who had a record of previous convictions, was found nearby by police.

He had previously been ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work as an alternative to custody .

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood heard he had only carried out 15 hours of the order and sentenced him instead to 70 days imprisonment.
