Work to build an innovative splash pad for Nairn Links has been delayed.

The project did not get under way today, as planned, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The splash pad had been commissioned to replace the existing paddling pool at Nairn Links. It is jointly funded between Team Hamish/Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise, Nairn Common Good and Highland Council.

It is understood that a date for the project to be re-started has not yet been programmed.

A council spokesman confirmed that the work did not get under way today as initially planned.

The splash pad was one of the recommendations of the Nairn Links Development Plan. The splash pad project is seen as phase one of the overall plan for the Nairn links area.

Contractor Ustigate was due to begin work today, with work expected to last for up to four months.
