Work set to start on cleaning dirty Inverness streets

A DEEP clean of one of Inverness city centre’s grubbiest areas is due to get under way this week.
As the Courier exclusively revealed last week, the plan to carry out a thorough clean of Baron Taylor’s, Lombard and Drummond Streets is being funded with £6000 from the Inverness Common Good Fund.
It has now been confirmed the clean-up will get under way from tomorrow afternoon as part of a two-week project.
Powerwashers will be used to blast away dirt, gum will be removed from pavements and the lane between Lombard Street and High Street will get a fresh lick of paint.
It is hoped that after the mini-facelift, local businesses will work harder to maintain their shopfronts and immediately surrounding areas.
Inverness Provost Helen Carmichael said: "If we all roll our sleeves up and pitch in, then together we can keep our city centre cleaner and more appealing to everyone."
In a letter to traders she added: "We have a great city but we can always do more and the council is looking at ways to improve what it can do to help. We can’t resolve the challenges of a growing city on our own so we need your help."
In further moves to improve the city centre, the council is advertising for someone to fill the new post of Victorian Market manager.
Part of an action plan to take the retail centre "into the 21st century," the manager will be responsible for marketing vacant units and pursuing tenancies that will "add to the quality, character and identity of the market".
