A 28-YEAR-OLD woman who failed to appear for sentencing on shoplifting and assault charges was arrested on warrant by police.

Julia Edgar, formerly of Bruce Gardens, Inverness, but now of no fixed abode, appeared from custody before Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that she had been remanded in custody for more than 100 days prior to having her sentence deferred after admitting stealing £199 worth of clothing from Marks and Spencer in Inverness in October 2019.

She had also pleaded guilty to punching her former partner in the face in Abbey Court, Inverness on September 26, 2020.

Defence solicitor Clare Russell said: “After doing well in prison, she fell back into a lifestyle of drug use. The items were stolen to pay for her habit. She was also in an unhealthy relationship with this individual and is very vulnerable.”

Sheriff Fleetwood admonished Edgar saying it was because “she had spent the equivalent of a seven-month prison sentence on remand”.
