A woman was taken to hospital after an alert by concerned onlookers at Ness Islands on Wednesday.

Police were called by a member of the public at around 4pm and it is understood officers removed her from the very shallow edge of the river.

The woman was treated at the scene by police and medical staff for at least 25 minutes before being removed by ambulance.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 4pm on Wednesday, March 29, officers were called to a report of concern for a woman at Ness Islands, near Bught Road, Inverness.

“She was traced and left in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We received a call on Wednesday at 1615 hours to attend an incident at Ness Islands.

"We dispatched one ambulance and a GP to the scene. We transported one female patient to Raigmore Hospital.”

The woman’s condition is not currently known.
