Ian Mackenzie (39) had originally faced a charge of assault but was convicted of behaving in a threatening manner.

In her evidence the woman told Inverness Sheriff Court she had been injured in a struggle as she threatened to call the police and her partner tried to take her phone from her.

Sheriff Robert McDonald heard the couple had been out for the evening and things had not gone well.

The woman returned to her house in Dochfour Drive, Inverness and Mackenzie, of the city's Swanston Avenue, arrived later and said he wanted to speak to resolve things.

The woman told the court she threatened to call the police but did not do so and suspected it must have been a neighbour who contacted them.

She said they started fighting over her phone and she eventually opened her front door and the police arrived on the scene.

“I asked the police to let him go,” she said.

“It was an argument that got out of hand.”

Sheriff McDonald deferred sentence for reports on Mackenzie until October 31.
