An Inverness woman has admitted coughing at a police officer during the height of the pandemic.

Courtney Smith (23) pled guilty to the charge of behaving in a culpable and reckless manner when she appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The court heard the incident happened after she was taken to Burnett Road police station on September 8, 2020 - when Covid-19 was still rife.

At that time social distancing and many pandemic preventative measures were in place.

Smith, of Myrtletown Park, had been arrested after shouting and swearing at a police officer in Aignish Drive earlier that day, according to court papers.

She admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner in relation to that offence as well as a failure to appear in court.

Sheriff David Harvie deferred sentence for the preparation of background reports.

Smith is to return to court on March 28 for sentencing.
