ORGANISERS of this weekend's Winter Wonderland in Whin Park are promising "a number of new attractions".

The free festivities get underway this evening at 6pm with a three-hour opening night.

The Wonderland will also take place on Saturday and Sunday from 4pm to 7pm.

Traditionally one of the highlights of the year for youngsters from all around the area, this year’s Wonderland has been expanded to feature a number of inflatables for families to enjoy - including the first ever opportunity for folk to climb inside giant WOW balls and attempt to walk across the park’s boating lake.

The council' lighting department will also illuminate several giant features. Inverness based Limelight Event Services has also designed a constantly changing light show to bring the park’s numerous trees to life.

And, as well as a wide range of playground rides, youngsters will also get the chance to meet Santa and his reindeer and a number of special guests who will be appearing in the park at various times throughout the event.

Inverness Winter Festival working group chairwoman, Councillor Glynis Sinclair, said: “This event has probably generated more wonderful family photographs that any other in our events and festivals programme and it is always a pleasure to see the excitement on the faces of the little ones as they discover all the surprises that we have in store for them.

"The event been especially designed for the smaller members of our community and for those who are young at heart; and we are delighted that our free Wonderland events seem to be growing in popularity with every passing year. We would ask everybody to wrap up as warmly as possible, make sure that they pack their cameras, and spread the word that we want everybody to come and be part of what is sure to be a wonderful experience for children of all ages.”

The Winter Wonderland is sponsored by the Inverness Common Good Fund as part of the Inverness Winter Festival programme and admission is free.
