A number of closures will affect movement on the Caledonian Canal this winter.

The Caledonian Canal will be closed to sea-to-sea traffic for a period this winter to allow essential repairs to be carried out on a number of canal structures.

Over Christmas and new year vessels wishing to transit sea-to-sea must enter the canal by 10am on Wednesday, December 20 at the latest.

Vessels entering the sea locks for safe haven at Corpach and Seaport Marina must arrive by 10am on Friday, December 22.

After new year the canal will reopen to sea-to-sea traffic at 9am on Wednesday, January 3 for three days before the winter closure comes into effect.

During these three days normal winter operating hours of 9am-4pm will apply.

The canal will then be closed to through traffic from 4pm on Friday, January 5 until 8.30am on Monday, March 25.

Scottish Canals reports that during this closure navigation of some sections of the canal may be possible within normal winter operating hours of Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm with a minimum of 48 hours prior arrangement.

Anyone wishing to make arrangements for this period should contact the Canal Office in Inverness on 01463 725500.
