Wildfire forces temporary closure of Affric Kintail Way at Cannich
A long-distance walking route in the Highlands has been closed as firefighters continue to tackle a wildfire at Cannich.
Forestry and Land Scotland said the Affric Kintail Way has been temporarily closed due to the devastating blaze.
The closure has been put in place to allow helicopters to safely continue waterbombing the fire-affected area and the areas close by.
The helicopters will be operating over some sections of the popular walking route, which stretches from Drumnadrochit at Loch Ness to Morvich in Kintail.
FLS explained that some of the route will be obscured from the pilots’ view by mature trees, putting walkers and other users of the trail at risk.

A diversion – which uses the public road – has been put in place.
It is anticipated that the closure could extent into the weekend and members of the public are advised to check the Affric Kintail Way website for latest updates.
