Highland Council has confirmed that Whin Park pond in Inverness has been fully drained.

The aim of the work is to complete a clean-up of the area and to manage and control an invasive non-native weed species found in the pond.

A council spokesman said: “The pond has been drained. There are still patches of muddy pools and it has also been treated with a herbicide. There has been absolutely nothing of any interest found. All aquatic life was removed by the Ness fishery board and released into the river.

“We need to wait out the cold spell and treat it again with herbicide then, when conditions allow, we begin to remove the problem weed. We have discovered a small leak where water ingresses into the pond but it is minimal. It may be the end of January before it’s complete.”
