A wheelie bin was thrown at a man and a woman following a disturbance in an Inverness housing estate.

The incident happened in Birnie Terrace, Inverness on July 9, 2021 and when 23-year-old Ryan Renicks was arrested by police, he spat on one constable.

Renicks, of Birnie Terrace, previously admitted three charges of assault and sentence had been deferred to await the outcome of further proceedings which have not yet taken place.

He had also pleaded guilty to breaching a bail curfew.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald decided to deal with the case immediately after hearing from defence solicitor Graham Mann.

He told the court: "His [Renicks] record is not good but he pled guilty to relatively minor matters. What is now before the court is greatly reduced than what he originally faced."

Jailing Renicks for six months, Sheriff Macdonald said she took this into account, adding: "You have a record for violence and there is no alternative to a prison sentence."
