VOLUNTEERS of a Ross-shire lifeboat have geared up on walking boots at the weekend to raise vital funds for their charity.

The RNLI Kessock lifeboat crew were blessed by sunshine as they took on Ben Wyvis on Sunday to kick off the charity's UK-wide Mayday fundraising campaign.

The call raised almost £600 for the charity, going well over their target of £500.

The crew reached the summit in less than two and a half hours and completing the walk of around 15km in just over five hours.

Yvette Kershaw, Kessock Lifeboat press officer said: "It was an amazing day and we are so happy of the amount raised.

"We started the walk and the weather looked quite grim but as the day went on the sun came out and it turned out to be a beautiful day. It was a great way to kick off the Mayday appeal!"

"It was nice for team morale, be together and do something fun.

Over the month of May, the charity is encouraging people in Inverness and the Black Isle to take on their own challenges in their Mayday Mile campaign.

The mayday call is the most serious call for help, to which RNLI crews answer so often during the year.

The money raised will support the charity in covering the costs for training, kit, lifeboat maintenance and boat fuel as well as other expenses which are essential for the charity to carry out their life-saving activity.

Donations can be made on the RNLI Kessock Lifeboat Just Giving page.
