BEAR Scotland has released video footage of one of its ploughs battling deep snow on the same trunk road where up to 20 vehicles became stranded last night.

A rescue operation is under way after a number of vehicles got stuck on the A835 near Loch Droma.

The road is currently shut between the Braemore junction and Garve.

It is one of several road and rail routes across the Highlands that have been hit by the heavy snows – amid an active amber alert from the Met Office.

In Sutherland, the A894 was also closed between Loch Assynt and the B869 turn-off for Drumbeg, south of Kylesku and Unapool.

And the Highland mainline is currently closed due to heavy snow between Aviemore and Perth.
