Police are trying to track down a woman who was filmed racially abusing a taxi driver in Inverness.

Footage recorded from inside the taxi has gone viral online, with wide condemnation on social media.

Inverness Area Commander, Chief Inspector Judy Hill said: “This matter has not been reported to police, however officers are now carrying out enquiries into the video to identify and trace those involved.

“Any type of hate crime is completely unacceptable and this type of abuse will not be tolerated.”

It is understood the driver was taking the woman to a police station after refusing to pay a fare while the recording took place.

The video contains explicit language which may be offensive to viewers.

The woman is told that she is being filmed and continues to abuse the driver.

Among commentators on social media is comedian Janey Godley, who said: “Utterly horrifying – hope she gets the full weight of the law thrown back at her.”
