NHS Highland has addressed emergency room waiting times in a new video.

Dr Mike Rennie, consultant for Inverness Raigmore Hospital's emergency department, said the health board was feeling the strain just as others were across Scotland.

He said that as a result some patients were waiting “far longer than they or we would like”.

Instead he suggests that the “right care, right place, right time” campaign might help to avoid unnecessary waits.

Among the suggestions includes phoning NHS 24 on the 111 phone number or seeking a GP's opinion.

Dr Rennie added: “We remain open. We want to deliver high quality safe care for our patients in emergencies.

“We will deliver the best care we can.”
