Watch: Highland Council leader says the freeport is one of the 'most exciting announcements in his lifetime'

The leader of Highland Council Raymond Bremner is convinced that the quality jobs and the opportunity provided by the freeport will help tackle long-standing demographic problems.

Councillor Raymond Bremner said: "I think this is going to be a huge economic boost for the Highlands."

But it also means more work for the local authority as it targets improving infrastructure for those that work in and come to do business with the freeport.

For that, however, the coucil will get to retain 100 per cent of non-domestic rates to fund the sort of projects that are needed.
