Members of Inverness Angling Club were piped down to the River Ness in Inverness this morning.

It marked the start of the 2023 salmon season and the honour of making the first cast went to Brian Shaw – the river director of the Ness District Salmon Fishery Board.

He said: "It is a great honour to be opening the River Ness – I have only been here a year.

"It's always an honour to open the river and I just hope it brings luck."
