A 22-year-old who lost all his pals on a night out decided to take a homeless man to an Inverness nightclub – because he wished him happy birthday.

MMA fighter Warren Killingback, who also works as a plumber in Inverness, said he had a great time with his new friend and is still keeping in touch with him.

Mr Killingback posted a video of his night out on social media, which has had more than 10,000 views.

He said: "I was on a night out in Inverness for my birthday. We were going to have a few drinks before going to a nightclub and we came across this homeless guy. I said to him that I had a £2 coin and he asked if I could throw it, to see if I could get it in his cup. I did.

"We chatted for a while, and I told him it was my birthday.

"I then managed to lose my friends on the way to the club, and it was midnight. I was on my own. The homeless man saw me and wished me happy birthday.

"I was amazed that he had remembered so I asked him if he wanted to come to the nightclub with me."

Mr Killingback explained that at first the man was worried about the cost of the night, but he convinced him to come.

"The next thing I knew he was changing out of his waterproofs and putting on his dancing trainers.

"At the end of the night I felt really sad to be taking him back to the street where he lives. But he seemed really pleased to have had a night out."

He said the homeless man only had one thing that he could part with and that was a lighter.

The homeless man gave Warren Killingback a lighter to celebrate his birthday.

Mr Killingback continued: "So he gave me his lighter as a birthday present and he would not take no for an answer. I gave him my phone number and said if there was ever anything I could do to help him he should just phone me."

The men have kept in touch.

Mr Killingback hopes to get back in competitive action in the next few months after recovering from an injury.
