IF you think you’ve got the moves like Jagger, then you are just what is needed for an annual charity dance competition.

With Monday’s deadline for entries to next year’s Strictly Inverness looming, organisers at Highland Hospice have issued a call for more male participants.

They want the men of Inverness and surrounding areas to get their name in for the competition or for people to nominate potential candidates among their colleagues, friends and family.

Despite getting off to a good start with a number of applications, organisers are now looking to even up the numbers in terms of total entries.

Hospice communications officer Wendy Morgan said: “We just need a few more men to pluck up the courage to apply. We have attracted a wide range of male participants of all ages, and from all walks of life over the years.

“They all thoroughly enjoy the experience, no matter how daunting it seems at first.

“So we want everyone out there to encourage your male friends, colleagues and relatives to get those applications in.”

Requirements are that the 32 participants – equally divided between male and female dancers – must have little or no dance experience, as they will receive dance training between January and May 2020 before the show kicks off on May 13 until May 16.

Dancers will also be asked to commit to fundraising activities for the hospice and the Inverness Ice Centre, which hosts the event.

The dance contest inspired by the TV show Strictly Come Dancing celebrated its 10th anniversary in May this year, raising £1,526,160 in total for the hospice and £324,400 for the ice centre in the past decade.

Last week, it was announced Strictly star Anton du Beke will be a guest judge at next year’s event after being at this year’s show.

Ms Morgan added: “Aside from the glitz and glamour, this is a charity event which exists to raise much-needed funds for two local causes close to the hearts of many.

“So if you fancy becoming a hit on the dance floor, meeting a new group of people, increasing your confidence and helping two fantastic Highland charities, this could be your moment.”
