An Inverness-based publishing company have released a new rhyming picture book.

The Colourful Moo has been written by Pauline Mackay and features illustration’s by Marjory Tait.

Ms Mackay, who runs Ablekids Press and has a shop in Market Brae Steps, said the inspiration for the book came after a conversation with a friend who said she should write about a Highland cow.

She said: “One day I was just sitting and the phrase the ‘coo with no moo’ just came to me, which made me laugh, and it went from there.”

The book follows the story of Sue the heilan coo, through the seasons with a happy ending guaranteed, says the author.

A colouring book will also be accompanying the release, which will allow children to engage more with the story.

The activity book is packed with pictures to colour, mazes, counting and join-the-dots which is promised to offer hours of fun for kids.

This is not the first publication for Ms Mackay who is the author of the popular Wee MacNessie series of picture books.

The Wee MacNessie series has been popular worldwide and is available in English and multiple bilingual versions.

When asked if she would be translating The Colourful Moo into other languages, she said: “Its hard to have rhyming translated! I’d be hugely impressed by anyone who wants to do so.”
