Nominations are being invited from people seeking election to 15 Highland community councils where membership has dropped to below half.

Areas include Inverness, Nairnshire and the Black Isle.

Community Councils are voluntary organisations which express the views and concerns of local people within their area across a wide range of issues from new buildings and roads to local services and facilities.

The scheme for the establishment of community councils can be downloaded from www.highland.gov.uk/elections.

The community councils welcome local residents getting involved and are looking for people to put themselves forward.

The need to hold interim elections has come about due to the resignation of some members.

They include Culloden where there are five vacancies, East Nairnshire with eight vacancies and Resolis on the Black Isle with four vacancies.

Other areas include Sutherland, Easter Ross, Wester Ross, Isle of Raasay, Badenoch and Strathspey and Lochaber.

Completed nomination forms must be submitted to the appropriate ward manager and must be received not later than noon on Tuesday August 30 2022.

Copies of the form may also be received electronically as long as they have been completed correctly and contains both the signature of the candidate and witness.

If any of the community councils receive valid nominations by the deadline which exceed its membership number, an election will take place on Thursday September 29 2022 via postal ballot.
