A volunteer group set up to help during lockdown will continue even as restrictions ease.

Acts of Kindness Inverness and Highlands offers daily support and care packages to those on reduced incomes or who are shielding.

Founder Shelley Gill said: “We will continue to provide care packs to those who are struggling throughout the Covid–19 pandemic seven days a week, until such a time as the restrictions are lifted.”

However, also thinking more long-term, she added: “When the day inevitably comes that our packs are no longer needed, we intend to continue the Acts of Kindness Facebook page to allow our online community to continue to use the platform and share their own acts of kindness, and we will continue to provide support to people who require information or direction to aid them in dealing with physical, mental and financial hardships.”

The group recently received a Point of Light award from Prime Minister Boris Johnson, recognising their hard work in the community at a difficult time.

“We were truly honoured and couldn’t have achieved this without our phenomenal team of admin, volunteers and of course the public, who have given us so many kind donations and supported us and each other at this time,” Mrs Gill said.

The group can be contacted through its Facebook page.
