Inverness MP Drew Hendry says it is vital the Scottish Government's new A9 plan is progressed without further slippage.

Mr Hendry gave his reaction following today's statement by Transport secretary Mairi McAllan that completion of the entire A9 dualling programme it is expected by the end of 2035.

Nearly half of the Inverness-Perth A9 stretch will be done within the next seven years.

Mr Hendry, who is MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, said: "This was an important statement that was much needed to reassure the Highland public that this major project would continue and that work on the Tomatin to Moy section will be under construction during 2024.

"Understandably, we have all been frustrated and disappointed at the delays, whatever the factors that have contributed to them, and it is now vital that this new plan is progressed without any further slippage, therefore I also welcome the commitment to further updates.

"I know I will not be alone in welcoming the news of significant investment in additional safety measures for the A9 whilst this work progresses – we all want to see the road our loved ones drive on day in, day out made as safe as possible while work is ongoing."
