Staff and residents at all of the care homes in Nairn have received the first of two vaccinations as part of a national campaign to control the spread of Covid-19.

Nairn has several residential homes which are locked down and will remain so until the battle to contain the virus has been won.

Carol Clark, manager and owner of Carolton and Bruach residential homes in Seabank Road, said the operation which was conducted by NHS staff went “very smoothly”.

She added: “Staff here have been undergoing weekly testing for Covid for 32 weeks.

“We all now of course have to have a second vaccination to build up our immunity, but the weekly testing programme will continue.”

All homes are not allowed visits from relatives, but residents are keeping in touch with loved ones via telephone and social media.

NHS staff, carers, over-80s and people considered to be vulnerable because of health conditions are being prioritised in the earliest phases of the vaccination programme.
