A Raigmore Hospital ward remains closed after a norovirus outbreak

A WARD at Raigmore Hospital that was closed in the wake of an outbreak of norovirus is to remain shut over the weekend.

Ward 2A was first closed to new admissions on December 1 after six patients began showing symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, and NHS Highland say there are still patients affected.

The highly-contagious virus spreads through the air and anyone who has displayed any of the above symptoms within the last 48 hours is being asked not to attend or visit the hospital.

The same applies to people living with anyone who has shown symptoms.

There is no specific treatment for norovirus, though it is not usually necessary to visit a doctor and advice is to stay at home and drink lots of water to prevent dehydration.
