Transcripts of proceedings at a fatal accident inquiry into a helicopter crash off Shetland will be made available to victims’ families at the end of each day’s proceedings.

Four people lost their lives in the crash at Sumburgh in 2013, including Inverness man Gary McCrossan (59).

The fatal accident inquiry (FAI) is set to commence on August 31, with sessions to be held virtually as a result of coronavirus.

At a preliminary hearing on Friday, however, relatives of the victims – who also included Sarah Darnley (45) of Elgin; Duncan Munro (46) of Bishop Auckland; and George Allison (57) of Winchester – raised fears technical problems could prevent them hearing proceedings as they unfold.

Sheriff Principal Derek Pyle said transcripts would be prepared and distributed daily for families, with video recordings also provided if necessary.

A total of 23 witnesses are expected to give evidence at the FAI, which is scheduled to run for four weeks.
