Voting will take place between 7.00am and 10.00pm on Thursday March 11 to elect a councillor for Highland Council’s Aird and Loch Ness ward.

The electoral registration officer is mailing out letters to households in the by-election area who may be eligible to take part in this election, to provide full details on who is on the electoral register at their address.

This also includes information on what to do to ensure you are registered to vote and advice on how to apply to vote by post.

The electoral registration officer, Bill Gilles, said: “In the current circumstances, particularly the Covid pandemic, people may be thinking about voting by post for the first time.

"If so and the letter you receive from us does not show you as a postal voter, you must get your application form to the address given in the letter by 5.00pm on 24 February 2021.

"Electors may wish to apply early for a postal vote.”

Further information on how to download or request a postal vote application form can be found at www.saa.gov.uk/h-wi-vjb.

You can contact the Electoral Registration office for any queries related to electoral registration. Please call 0800 393 783 or e-mail ero@highland.gov.uk.

Anyone who has been granted a postal vote will be sent a postal ballot pack which provides clear information on how to complete the ballot paper and return it in the envelope supplied.

Should anyone make a mistake when filling in their ballot, arrangements can be made to receive a replacement postal vote right up until polling day.

Highland Council has produced a short information video that provides details on how people can take part in the by election either by postal vote, casting their ballot at a polling station or requesting a proxy vote so someone can vote on their behalf.
