THE live music at the Victorian Market’s food zone will be staying after being a hit with locals, tourists and traders.

Since they started hosting live music last November, acting general manager Cameron MacFarlane has noticed the positives.

“What a difference, what a change,” he said.

“Honestly, the market has really come alive and it’s changed the way people eat and drink in the food hall. It’s changed the ambience, the atmosphere is great and we see people changing their minds from just stopping for a cake, to wanting to stay for a meal and a drink.”

The live music schedule is currently Fridays, Saturday and Sundays but it looks like this could change soon.

Potentially by the end of March there could be a DJ in place to play some ‘chill out’ music from 4pm-8pm for people to enjoy while they continue to eat and drink.

With tourist season being right around the corner, the music could end up being on for five days a week if things go well.

There are even talks of maybe getting more talent involved such as Highland dancers further down the line.

For just now though, it’s all about giving local musicians a chance to play in front of a crowd.

Mr MacFarlane said: “The Victorian Market is the hub of the city and it’s time we use it as such to give these people an opportunity to play.

“We have such a great array of musicians here in the Highlands and it has been great being able to hear them. If someone wants to come down with their guitar and they want to play then of course we would let them.

“With the shock of the Ironworks closing it’s amazing that we’re able to support the Inverness music scene like this. The Market Bar found The Proclaimers and I’m hoping to find someone better.”

If anyone wants the opportunity to play, they can get in touch via the Victorian Market Inverness website or Facebook page.
