The handiwork of one of the exhibits by the Nairn Yarnbombers has been damaged within weeks of its installation.

The crocheted works have been admired on fifteen postboxes throughout Nairnshire as a continuation of a project which began during Covid to put a smile on people's faces.

Carolin Mackay, teamleader of the Yarnbombers, said the damaged craftwork was produced by Morag Anderson who made the creation depicting the "Sutors Giants" who were reputed to both be cobblers.

"This creation was made for Cawdor Road and many would see it as they went up to the doctors or hospital.

"Unfortunately, the large hammer was removed, leaving only the twisted wire frame used to attach the hammer to the crocheted base.

"This really upset us all as there is no need to abuse a Postbox Topper for any reason.

"I have since put a message out to request the Topper's be left alone and if anyone should think 'I would like this or that', then message the team to see if it could be gifted after the display is taken down or ask if we could even make another.

"A lot of effort goes into these creations and it's really heartbreaking when this sort of thing happens."

Caroline started the craze during Covid when she personally created all 14 Postbox Topper's during the first year of the pandemic.

She has since made them for events like armistice, Christmas and Easter, but now has a whole team in Nairnshire joining in the project.
