A VAN driver who may have witnessed a fatal collision involving a lorry and pedestrians in Nairn is being urged to come forward by police.

Inverurie OAP Margaret Ritchie (80) died at the scene after the lorry struck her and another woman on the A96 at Academy Street at 3.30pm on Thursday 29 October.

The other woman survived and was treated in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Police are now hoping to trace the driver of a red Mercedes Sprinter-type van which was travelling east. The driver stopped at the scene immediately after the collision and assisted at the scene.

"It is anticipated that the driver may have witnessed the collision or have valuable information that would be of benefit to the road policing unit officers, who are investigating the collision," said a police spokesman.

"We would therefore seek this opportunity to ask the driver of the van to contact them on 101."
