Inverness Sheriff Court heard a man attacked his partner after a cocktail of drink and drugs.

Despite this, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald was told by defence solicitor Marc Dickson that Johshua Notman’s girlfriend remained supportive of him and the relationship is to continue.

Fiscal depute Susan Love told the court that first offender Notman (28) struck the woman on the neck on June 25 last year, causing her to be sick. She ran to the bathroom, chased by Notman who then grabbed her by the neck. Ms Love said: “She said her breathing was restricted for about 10 seconds. She kicked out at him and managed to get away. However, he followed her, grabbing her by the arms and pulling her around the property.

“The woman called his father and he arrived, shouting at him to stop. She fled out the communal hallway and the police were contacted. She sustained bruising to her neck, body and a superficial cut to her arm.”

Notman pleaded guilty to assault to injury in their Old School Lane flat. Sentence was deferred until June 6 for reports.
