UPDATE: Two people – including a child – taken to hospital after car hits lamppost near Inverness Campus

TWO people – including a child – were taken to Raigmore Hospital after their car struck a lamppost and veered into a ditch.

Emergency services were alerted by 999 calls from onlookers at the scene near the Inverness Campus turn-off on the B9006 Culloden Road at 11.41am today.

Closure of the road created knock-on traffic congestion at various points around the city.

Four fire engines, two ambulances and police attended the accident involving only a white Audi car and no other vehicles.

The car had rolled down an embankment through bushes into the ditch.

A police spokesman said their injuries do not appear to have been life-threatening.

An ambulance service spokesman said specialist paramedics had attended, confirming injuries suffered were not believed to be life-threatening. He added a team was on the scene within two minutes.
