UPDATE: Three people taken to hospital after two-vehicle accident on A9 north of Dalwhinnie

Three people have been taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness after a van and car were involved in a collision on the A9 north of Dalwhinnie.

Emergency services have been in attendance at the scene between Etteridge and Wade Bridge following the accident which occurred at around 7pm.

Three people were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness but it is understood that no-one is in a serious condition.

The accident involved two French nationals travelling in a car and a van.

The van driver was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital but was described by an eye witness as 'walking wounded' and the two women have been taken there by road ambulance as a precautionary measure.

The van ended up off the A9 following the collision north of Dalwhinnie earlier this evening.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 7pm to a report of a crash on the A9 northbound near Newtonmore involving two cars.

"The vehicles are being recovered."

The van ended up on its side off the road and the car sustained significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

Traffic Scotland is advising that the road is currently restricted in both directions and drivers in the vicinity are urged to use caution on approach.

Motorists are being warned that they could face significant delays.
