A man currently missing after falling overboard in Loch Ness is reported to have been part of a group on board a yacht called Miss Adventure.

It is believed he and a friend who also ended up in the water were Polish nationals who had gone to the loch with two women to enjoy a day sailing from the vessel's berth on Dores beach yesterday.

The missing man is believed to be aged 34.

One local said: "We heard that he had gone for a pee and fell overboard.

"His mate dived in to save him but the other chap went under very quickly. I don't think he was wearing a life-jacket."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 6.50pm on Thursday, emergency services were made aware of two men having fallen from a boat into Loch Ness near Dores Bay.

“One man has been rescued from the water and a search is currently ongoing for the other.”

The search for the missing man went on for hours until darkness defeated emergency services including police, fire brigade, Loch Ness RNLI lifeboat, the coastguard, its helicopter and a host of volunteers.

It resumed this morning.

It is unclear whether the boat was owned by one of the party or if it had been rented.

The boat was tied up at Temple Pier near the Loch Ness RNLI lifeboat station after being towed there by the mercy crew.

The search area was also extended further up the loch to Urquhart Bay.
