Police have confirmed that a woman was safely removed from Kessock Bridge after it was closed in both directions for more than four hours.

Concerns were raised around 8.40pm on Wednesday (August 31) and the A9 was closed for the woman's safety.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of concern for a person on Kessock Bridge in Inverness around 8.40pm on Wednesday, 31 August, 2022.

“A woman was safely removed and the bridge was reopened around 12.55am on Thursday, 1 September, 2022.”

It was described as a 'police incident' on Wednesday and Traffic Scotland was recommending motorists – including football fans travelling south from Ross County v Celtic in Dingwall – take care on approach and use an alternative route if possible.

Emergency services representatives were at the bridge from around 9pm.
