UPDATE: Mystery surrounds body found at Nairn's 'Secret Beach' at Hilton of Delnies as police officers probe for clues into "unexplained" death

Police probing the mystery of a body found on a beach near Nairn say the dead person has still not been identified.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, with enquiries continuing at the scene where police retained a presence overnight.

It is understood part of the beach remains closed to the public.

A police spokeswoman was unable to say whether the victim was male or female, adult or child or give any other details surrounding the circumstances of the find.

The alarm was raised early yesterday (Thursday) morning when officers were called to an area known to locals as the Secret Beach.

A police spokeswoman said: "Formal identification has yet to take place and officers are still at the scene.

“Around 6.15am on Thursday, August 25, police were called to the Hilton of Delnies area of Nairn after a body was found.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained, pending further enquiries.”
