Highland Council has issued a statement following claims of more delays to an upgrade of Culloden Academy in Inverness.

Culloden Academy Parent Council stated it was "absolutely furious" that the project at one of the most overcrowded schools in the area was suffering another apparent setback.

They claim they were told at a meeting on Thursday that the school extension project has been delayed until 2025.

In response, this afternoon a Highland Council spokeswoman said: “The Culloden Academy stakeholder group was updated last Thursday evening about progress on the project and the cost pressures facing the construction industry.

“Members agreed at the council meeting on June 30, 2022 to carry out a review of the capital programme later this year, which will look at the phasing of the programme of works for the council’s capital projects. The council currently has 10 major school projects under way, either new builds or extensions, that are due to be completed within the first five years (2022/23 to 2026/27) of the capital programme that was approved in December 2021.

“However, members also agreed that design and planning work would continue on all the major school projects at pre-construction stage, including Culloden Academy, pending the review.”
