Drakies Primary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week by hosting a range of events.

One of the events planned for the start of the week was to dig up a time capsule that had been buried twenty-five years ago, in the grounds of the school, on its 25th anniversary.

However, teachers and pupils ran into a slight problem when the time capsule was nowhere to be found.

Drakies class teacher, Jacqui Barclay had been spending her time digging holes in the ground to no avail.

She said: “The grounds of the school have changed since the 25th anniversary when they buried the time capsule, so we weren't too sure where it was.”

Appeals were sent out requesting help to mark the whereabouts of the missing time capsule.

Today, an ex-member of staff brought in a picture which provided the exact whereabouts of the missing box.

With the help of school parents Iain and Steph Cowie and their digger, it was retrieved from the grounds of the school.

Ms Barclay said: "It has been an amazing day and finding the time capsule has just been the cherry on top.

"All the kids were there to see the time capsule being found so it was a really special moment.

"We knew it was somewhere there but we thought it was made of metal.

"Now we know its plastic and why the metal detectors didn't work!"

The school will bury another time capsule tomorrow to mark their 50th anniversary, but this time will be leaving a slab on top to mark its whereabouts for the future.
