AN upgrade of the part of the A96 between Inverness and Nairn has been delayed.

The £280,000 was due to start last night but has been knocked back due to "operational reasons", according to Bear Scotland.

A spokesman for BEAR Scotland said: “Due to operational reasons, the £280,000 overnight surfacing improvements on the A96 west of Smithton Roundabout near Inverness have been postponed until next month subject to weather conditions.

“The overnight project was scheduled to begin last night and had been planned to take place over five nights, with all surfacing improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am Saturday, October 26.

“There will be no traffic management in place for the remainder of the week with the A96 remaining fully open.

“All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes and will be updated once new dates for the project are confirmed.”
