A 22-year-old man who was found guilty after trial of seizing a woman by the throat was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid community work.

Gary Campbell, of Smith Avenue, Inverness was also placed under social work supervision for a year and banned from approaching or contacting his victim for the same period.

Sentence had been deferred for a background report which Sheriff David Harvie read before sentencing.

Defence solicitor Duncan Henderson told Inverness Sheriff Court that "drink and drugs played a part in this".

The sheriff also fixed a review of the community payback order for April 4 because: "I want to keep an eye on you.

"It is good that you appear to be taking steps to resolve the issues you have and I will get an up-to-date report from the Criminal Justice Social Work team to see how you are getting on with their support."

Campbell was convicted by Sheriff Harvie last month of the assault on his partner or ex partner which occurred in a house in Kessock Avenue, Inverness on June 25 last year.
