Inverness Sheriff Court heard security staff at a city centre pub called police as they feared a customer had a weapon.

Robin Clark (34) was spoken to by officers at the Caledonian Bar in High Street, Inverness on January 30.

Depute fiscal Michelle Molley said Clark, of Torvean Avenue, Inverness, took exception to this and offered resistance.

"He made some infantile remarks to police, posturing and trying to square up to them," she said.

Clark admitted behaving in an abusive and threatening manner.

Solicitor Clare Russell said Clark, who admitted previous convictions, should have known better.

"Police searched him for something he didn't have in his possession," she said.

Ms Russell added her client was an unemployed father of three.

Given his record she suggested a community payback order as a suitable punishment.

Sheriff David Sutherland ordered Clark to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work as an alternative to custody.
