UHI Inverness art lecturer Frank To up for nomination in prestigious society

The works of a UHI Inverness art lecturer have been accepted to a prestigious London exhibition.
Award winning artist Frank To saw his gunpowder artwork accepted to the prestigious Society of Graphic Fine Art.
He is also up for nomination to become full member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art this summer – which would make him one of few Scottish artists making his reputation as one of the top draughtsman in the country.
Commenting on the exhibition, Mr To said: “For me, it’s important to highlight the importance of art practical skills such as painting and drawing especially within Scotland. It’s all about pushing the limits in drawing within contemporary art. I’m lucky to have been recognised by various royal art academies and institutions for my gunpowder work such as the Society of Scottish Artists and Royal Ulster Academy. For the Society of Graphic Fine Art in London, I wanted to see how far I can push myself in using gunpowder to create art. I’m delighted that I am one of a small handful of Scottish artists accepted into the Society of Graphic Fine Art exhibition this year.
"Furthermore, to be nominated to possibly become full member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art is a honour and privilege. For me personally, it’s about showing how I can contribute the Scotland’s reputation of producing some of the best drawing artists in the UK and to showcase this in central London is indeed of great importance.”
Frank To is a UHI Inverness art lecturer whose unique gunpowder technique has garnered him international recognition the contemporary arts scene.
The Society of Graphic Fine Art – also known as the Drawing Society _ is the only national society in the UK dedicated exclusively to drawing.
Frank To’s ignited gunpowder artwork goes from March 11.
